Hypertension otherwise known as high blood pressure affects a lot of people both those who are overweight and underweight. It affects ones’ lifestyle if proper care is not taken. Some common symptoms are: severe headache, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, chest pain, irregular heart beat etc.

 

The Following Tips Will Help You Prevent Hypertension

BE STRESS FREE 

One thing that leads to hypertension is stress. When you’re too stressed as a result of too much work or pressure generally, it can indirectly lead to hypertension. Try limiting anything in your life that stresses you and ensure you have adequate rest. The body is not a machine, it require rest to revitalize the body dead cells.

WATCH YOUR WEIGHT

For those that are hypertensive, shedding some weight will assist in reducing that hypertension. Since high blood pressure makes the heart pump more blood, it’s better to lose some weight in order to reduce the workload of the heart. If it means doing some exercises, please do.

REDUCE SALT INTAKE

Too much of salt in our food causes a rise in blood pressure. So when cooking your meals, ensure you reduce the quantity of salt you put in your food.

 

LIMIT YOUR INTAKE OF FATTY MEALS

Foods like fried foods, processed foods (because sodium is normally used during processing), foods high in cholesterol should be reduced because they add to the body mass of an individual. Too much cholesterol in your blood it could form a clot and blocks a narrowed artery, which can cause a stroke or heart attack.

Increase intake of foods with calcium and potassium such as banana, sweet potatoes, cheese, yogurt, milk, beans, avocado as they help to reduce effect of too much sodium in the body and also lower stress hormones in the blood.

 

EASE TENSION

A lot of people carry problems on their head too much. There’s no one that doesn’t have problems so why kill yourself over it? Over worrying will only shorten your life span so limit it. Do away with anything that will frustrate or make you angry. Hypertension sometimes makes people collapse because of heaviness of heart as a result of too much thinking. Do all you can to ease off tension. Do things to make you laugh. Watch a comedy, listen to music, hang out with friends, go for comedy shows etc.

 

AVOID TAKING EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL/SMOKING 

Drinking too much alcohol can raise blood pressure to unhealthy levels. Having more drinks in one sitting temporarily increases your blood pressure, but continuous repeated drinking can lead to long-term increase. Smoking should be stopped as it raises blood pressure too.

 

EXERCISE REGULARLY

This helps to also reduce blood pressure. Exercise helps to keeps your body and heart healthy by allowing the proper flow of blood in the body. It is recommended you exercise on regularly to stay healthy. Do not feel lazy to do some exercises even if it’s for a short period of time.

 

GO FOR MEDICAL CHECKUPS

High blood pressure can be monitored. There are BMI (body mass index) tools you can use to check your blood pressure or you can visit the hospital for regular check-ups. You can also purchase a blood pressure personal kit from any drug store around you. Do this to effectively monitor your blood pressure but if your situation does not improve, ensure to see a doctor for medication and advice.

Changing some aspects of your lifestyle will go a long way in improving your health.
