The eyes are the most important part of the human body and special care needs to be taken to ensure that nothing goes wrong with them. Irrespective of certain medical issues and hereditary problems, it is of utmost priority to care for the eyes; understanding yourself and how your body works is therefore necessary to be comfortable.

How can eyesight be improved?

Ensure you eat foods that promote good eye health like fish which contains omega-3 fatty acids and helps protect against dry eyes, macular degeneration and even cataracts, leafy greens, fruits high in vitamin C(oranges, berries), eggs(contain vitamin A), nuts such as almonds and walnuts which have omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E that boost your eye health, beans, whole grains such as brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta, legumes, beef and a host of others.

As funny as it sounds, the eyes need to be exercised. Since it’s the most functional part of the body, certain minimal exercises can be done to help one see better. Some examples are:

  • Try focusing on an object that is some feet away from you for about 10-15 seconds and look away
  • Place an object few inches away from your face for 5 seconds and look at something else.
  • Rotate your eyeballs or look from side to side
  • Simply closing your eyes is also a way to exercise it. Close it for a few seconds and open it again
  • Try making a figure 8 with your eyes
  • Massage your eyes

Depending on the state or condition of your eyes, you can take supplements to help boost your vision or simply ask your optician to prescribe some for you. Some of them are:

  • Vitamin B complex
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Omega-3 essential fatty acids
  • Bioflavonoids (basically found in fruits and vegetables)

Most of time unknowingly we stress our eyes daily. In your daily activities, while working on the desktop or laptop, while reading, while watching the TV, while driving, etc. It is good to sometimes just let the eyes relax. You can try staying off working on the system for some time because the bright light from the screen can affect the eyes. Rays from the sun equally affect the eyes so putting on shades is also a way to protect the eyes. You can also rest the eyes by sleeping.

If you need to use recommended glasses to aid your vision; then do. Change the lens regularly and do checkups from time to time. Find out what works best for you, some people prefer using contact lenses but ensure you use the right prescription and handle it carefully.

Having a very good eyesight is possible. Adhere to the above and you’ll be just fine.
