It must sound funny saying that a person wants to gain weight, right? All we ever hear is the fact that people want to lose weight but I am very sure there are people out there who would want to know how they can gain weight the right and healthy way.
These are some tips to help you achieve that.
Eat a balanced diet:
Trying to gain weight does not necessarily mean that you are on a mission and must therefore eat all you can lay your hands on. It simply means eating right. Ensure your meals consist of a balanced diet having a combination of the classes of food such as carbohydrates, protein, fats and oil, vitamins etc. I am not saying that all these classes of food must be in every meal but at least there should be a combination of two or three of them.
Have a time table:
This is possible. All you need to do is draw up a plan on what your meals will be consistently to ensure you eat right and healthy. For example: Morning: tea and bread with fried eggs. Afternoon: semovita or any staple of your choice with vegetable soup and meat or fish. Evening: pap/custard with moi moi or fruits if you want to eat light. If you do not want to follow a strict plan, you can be flexible about it but ensure you eat well.
Do not skip meals:
People tend to eat too fast when they are very hungry which will make them feel very full and bloated afterwards. Try eating at the point you feel hungry and don’t procrastinate. Eat as at when due.
Engage in quality eating:
Your focus should be on the quality of food you eat and not the quantity. Most people eat to get filled up not considering the health benefits. Foods like vegetables, fruits, foods that contain carbohydrates etc. are healthy.
Take a snack but do it moderately as too much of everything is bad. Healthy snacks like peanuts, avocado, and cheese are good.
Keep a tab on your calories:
To ensure you’re gaining weight the right way, track your calories. You can do this on your own through a device or go to the hospital for regular check-ups. You’ll know if you’re gaining too much weight or not.
Use healthy oils:
Instead of using the normal groundnut oil for cooking or frying, use healthier oils like olive oil, coconut oil, soya bean oil etc.
Cook your meals:
Rather than eating out, try cooking meals at home because they will be healthier as you will be careful enough to wash them well, and cook your meat tender than most joints.
You can take supplements like vitamins which will aid you eating as some people need a booster to aid their eating habits.
You do not need to be overweight or on the big side to be considered healthy. Simply eat right and keep fit. Health is wealth.
