To format your computer with Windows OS, follow these steps:

STEP 1: BACK UP

Formatting is an act of preparing a storage device to receive data. Formatting renders a disk empty of all data or file so before you format your system you must back up information in your computer to an external storage device.

 

STEP 2: BIOS SETUP

Restart your system and when the Windows logo appears enter the setup screen by hitting the keys displayed on the screen – some of which include F2, F10, F12 and Del. When the BIOS menu displays click on the Boot menu, then change the device that your computer reboots from computer to DVD/CD or removable disk depending on the device you are using.

STEP 3: LAUNCH THE SETUP

Insert the operating system installation CD, DVD or removable disk into your system. If the BIOS setting is correct this message will be displayed “Press Any Key To Boot From CD” then press any key on the system to automatically launch the program.

STEP 4: WATCH THE PROGRAM LOAD

Watch the program as it loads and once it’s done the Windows logo will appear on the screen. At this stage, nothing has changed regarding data stored.

STEP 5: CHOOSE YOUR PREFERENCE

Here you have to select your preference after being prompted by the system e.g. currency, time, language format and input method or keyboard. After making your selection, click next.

STEP 6: INSTALL

From the displayed window select “Install” now rather than “Repair.” Note you should not attempt to select repair even if re-installing is a way of repairing it. Click and wait for the terms to come up. Accept the terms to continue.

STEP 7: DECIDE INSTALLATION TYPE

The next window that will appear after clicking install with the question, “What type of installation do you want?” And present you with two options “Upgrade” or “Custom (Advance).” If you are upgrading select it but if you are re-installing your same version choose Custom.

STEP 8: CHOOSE LOCATION

Another window that will emerge will request for the location you want to install the Operating system. Choose “Drive options (Advanced).” At this particular location, you can format, delete or manage your partitions. Select the partition of your existing OS which is ‘C’ i.e. Partition 1.

STEP 9: FORMAT

Select the Drive and Click format. Wait for few minutes while the system does its thing and after the completion of the process a notification will be displayed.

STEP 10: CONTINUE INSTALLATION

After completion, click “Next” to continue the installation. This stage consumes time and it is a function of your system speed. After your computer restarts do not press anything even if the message on the screen request that you press any key. Wait for a minute as your computer continues booting till completion of the installation process.

STEP 11: INSTALLATION COMPLETED

After the final completion process, the computer displays, “Setup is preparing your computer for first use.”

STEP 12: SET YOUR SYSTEM

Type the user name you want to use on your PC click next, set the password (if you choose to) click next again. Type in your product key and check the “Automatically update Windows when I’m online” option. Click next when you are done.

STEP 13: SET WINDOWS UPDATES

Set windows update option to protect your computer and improve your OS automatically. Choose the recommended settings.

STEP 14: SET DATE, TIME AND NETWORK PREFERENCES

 Set your date and time to correctly then click next.

Choose the best network preference that suits your computer usage. Home Network is commonly used.

STEP 15: FINALE! 

After everything, load and launch your Windows.
