Recently the UK government deported about 61 Nigerians due to immigration related offences. Information from some of the deportees was that their deportation because their visas expired. Now anyone applying for visa to visit any country abroad, should not over-stay his or her time.

There are different visas you can apply for to visit UK and these include visitor visa, student visa, business visa, diplomatic visa and so on. When applying for a UK visa, be sure you begin the process up to four weeks before you departure date.

To apply for a UK visa just follow these few steps.


First determine the visa you are applying for and check the requirements. The different visas are available on the UK site, Visa fee varies according to the type of visa which is on the website. The fee of USD141 is charged for short period visitors. You can check the site for other fees.



Make your way to Teleperformance – UK Application Centers in Lagos or Abuja. Teleperformance is a company responsible for UK visa application, they work in partnership with the UK Government and immigration in Nigeria. The centers are:

Approach any of the centers close to you to book an appointment. After filling the application form online, you will be allotted GWF number – this number is important because it will be required during the processing of your visa. After that you will receive an email from the embassy confirming your appointment date, location and documents required.



Register your information on Teleperformance website after booking your appointment. Without registering, your appointment will be delayed. You might not even be allowed to attend the appointment. You can also track your application on Teleperformance website. Be sure you check your confirmation email to note the date and time. It should be noted at this point that lateness to the appointment is not allowed it can lead to delays. You will need to rebook your appointment.



Once your appointment is confirmed, you will be required to submit your application form and other documents. Also you will have to avail them your Biometric. Submission of passports and documents takes place at the centers on Monday to Friday between 8.30 AM to 4.30 PM except on public holidays.

Collection of visa takes place from Mondays to Fridays between 10am and 4pm (except on Public Holidays). An SMS will be sent to you when your passport and visa is back at the Application Centre.

Visa Requirements

  • Application Form – The UK visa form has is filled online
  • A recent passport sized color photograph on white background (45mmx35mm wide)
  • Visa Fee
  • Evidence of permission to be in UK if you are not a national of the Nigeria. e.g visa, green card, residence permit etc.
  • Photocopy of passport data page
  • Letter of Invitation
  • Original bank statement ( at least 6 months)
  • Birth certificate for children travelling with parents.
  • Applicant travelling on official business needs to attach a letter of invitation/confirmation of training/conference, with details of the Company’s Authorized representative including physical address and phone numbers.
  • Letter from sponsor
  • Utility bills
  • Hotel/flight bookings
  • Marriage certificate
